Under the general direction of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor), the Senior Accounting Officer (Specialist) is responsible for independently performing the more difficult professional accounting duties and will act as the lead in the Travel Unit. The incumbent will be the subject matter expert for CalATERS, Concur, and FI$Cal.  The incumbent will assist with training other travel coordinators and HCD travelers, audit, and process travel reimbursement claims, prepare monthly reconciliations, maintain the Travel Unit general inbox, monitor changes to State travel rules and communicate changes to staff, prepare and present training materials, and other related accounting work. This will require knowledge of State accounting processes and State travel rules. The incumbent will also be responsible for communicating with outside control agencies regarding the Statewide Travel Program. Additionally, will back-up the lead in the Federal Payments Unit.

HCD Disclosure Requirements

HCD conducts pre-employment background checks on all new to HCD or returning to HCD candidates. This position requires a background check to be conducted in California and  cleared prior to being hired.

  • Experience with State accounting processes, principles, methods, and procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience presenting and/or training staff.
