Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh – a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox.

Fort Knox prioritizes being a strong contributor to the State and local communities, and since 2001, has helped support more than 300 community partners and has contributed more than US$25 million to the Alaska Mental Health Trust.

Job Description

Responsible for supporting drilling operations to maximize drill utilization and efficiency through a wide range of activities and functions including, but not limited to: drill tooling management and repair, drill supplies and consumables management, drill water delivery, sample pickup and delivery. Must also show the ability and willingness to act as a lead over the junior members of the Drill Support team.

Job Responsibilities

1.    Drill tooling management – DTH hammer rebuilds, DTH drill bit sharpening, inventory management, tooling life optimization, tooling change planning.
2.    Actively participate in Drill Lineout by communicating with drillers and D&B Supervisor on improvement opportunities.
3.    Keep all drills stocked with essential supplies: stakes, sample bags, drilling water etc.
4.    Deliver drilling samples to the lab in a timely manner to ensure assay priorities are met.
5.    Restock and clean shop area.
6.    Assist and/or lead drill tooling changes and drill lowboy moves.
7.    Walk drill patterns checking for correct hole depths, marking re-drills and gathering a wet hole count.
8.    Train junior members of the Drill Support team
9.    Assist Drill and Blast Supervisor as needed.
10.    Maintain neat and accurate records.
11.    Promote safety by communicating effectively with co-workers and supervisor.
12.    Assist Blasting department as needed.
13.    Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
14.    Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
15.    Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
16.    Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
17.    Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct hazards.
18.    Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
19.    Perform other duties as required.

Education and Experience

1. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.  Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.

2. General background in heavy equipment and/or blasthole drill operation preferred

1. Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions required.
2. Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.
3. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
4. Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
5. Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
6. Progression through wage scale is contingent upon satisfactory completion of attached checklists.
